Which Planet Do We Want? (2021)

Description: My drawing tries to encourage people to make choices for the future of our planet. Now is the time to take action to protect the planet because if we wait longer, it will be too late. In which condition do we want to leave the Earth to the next generations? We need to decide: a beautiful, green and blue planet or a place in which life disappeared and you cannot breathe pure air? If we do not take care of the Earth, we could end up constantly breathing polluted air or even become extinct. Our choice today influences whether we’ll have a blue or black planet. Let’s choose wisely.

Crossing Generations (2022)

Description: In my drawing, I have tried to show how different generations face rising water problems linked to climate change. Of course, not every one of every generation is the same, but I hope to encourage people to think a little more. The world in the water is black and white, and the one above the water has colour. The older generation pouring water from a tilted tea cup has little experience with rising water problems and sometimes helps to make it worse. The middle generation knows the problems but tends to ignore them. And the youngest generation experiences the most problems: it is about their future.

Description: Our drawing represents the importance of water and the serious issues caused by human behaviour. By using different artistic techniques, such as watercolour and coloured pens, we expressed the concept of overconsumption, which depletes freshwater resources. The black hand represents those who are responsible for the over-use of this precious exploitation, including us citizens with our everyday actions. The world is deformed and cannot return to its original shape because water represents a non-renewable resource. We could avoid the point of no return through awareness, knowledge and the pursuit of new resources, to improve the lives of new generations and the future of Planet Earth.

The Water Shop (2022)

Description: In the future, water will become the most precious thing on earth. Humans live under the management of robots that do not need water. Due to the lack of water, the whole earth has become a desert. This is a shop selling water. Not only does it cost ten dollars for every drop of water, but a person can only buy ten millilitres at most. If we do not save water and continue to waste water resources, this is likely to be our future life. Therefore, please cherish every drop of water, protect ourselves and protect nature!

The Protection of Water (2021)

The Grada wash house and the domestic use of water

Description: The canal’s water also had a domestic function and for centuries was used to wash clothes. In Bologna there were different types of wash houses. The “trench” one was equipped with a masonry parapet that protected washerwomen from the water. The “drawbridge” was a simple wooden plank suspended over the canal. A Wash House was located in via della Grada and was characterized by large steps that sloped down to the bed of the Reno Canal.

Flood prevention

Description: In the event of a flood, the ordinary emergency maneuver of the Canali di Bologna technical department consists of closing the main gate at the Casalecchio Dam at the point where the canal begins (the Boccaccio) and closing the main gate of the Savena Canal at the San Ruffillo Dam. By closing these two flood gates, the flood water, which is harmful because it is full of sediments and branches, cannot enter the network and it is ready to receive all the excess rainwater as well as the water coming from the numerous hillside streams.

The canals as defence for the city

Description: The Reno and Savena Canals were built at the end of the 12th century also for the defensive purpose to feed the moat of the walls that surrounded the city of Bologna. The last circle of walls is the third, built starting from the 13th century and demolished at the beginning of the 20th century.
