IDRO, open since summer 2004, is located in Romagna Apennines and represents a small corner of paradise with a strong tourist and environmental impact, where there is a perfect balance between a work of high engineering and an environment to be preserved. It is a multifunctional building that integrates with surrounding area and with natural heritage of Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona and Campigna National Park and the catchment area of Ridracoli dam. Ridracoli Dam is the main source of water supply for territory of Romagna. IDRO has received numerous awards since its opening: in 2006 in Portugal it qualified among the 18 Environmental Museums awarded at European level at "European Museum of the Year Award" and in 2009 thanks to the recognition received by Cultural Heritage Institute of Emilia Romagna Region, enters the circuit of "Quality Museums". Moreover, every year, since the beginning of its activity of educational and informative proposals, it is recognized by Region as "Service and Consulting Centre for the autonomous educational institutions of Emilia-Romagna". It consists of its own headquarters, with several exhibition halls, where water and territory are protagonists: sustainability, climate change, ecosystem services, relationship between man and nature are just some of the topics addressed, while maintaining centrality of water theme. We want to offer visitors and schools in particular, a museum useful for dissemination and teaching. In addition, visitors has possibility to explore natural environment through an electric boat ride or by canoe or e-bike. The museum also exhibits some specimens of its naturalistic collection composed of over 400 pieces, each accompanied by a certificate of origin attesting to their regular detention. Protected animals, included in the Washington Convention (CITES), are registered.
